Lorna Syson Spotted by Urban Sherp at ICFF 2010

A big thank you to Urban Sherp for featuring me in their blog. I met Rebecca in New York at ICFF and had a lovely chat with her about how Lorna Syson Textiles is going Eco-friendly, and yes we have managed to achieve this goal a lot quicker than first thought! We are now bringing out a new complementary collection which is completely Eco-friendly!

Check out Urban Sherp's Blog entry below and make sure you check the site, its full of gorgeous Eco-friendly finds from across the world

Lorna Syson’s Stunning Sculptural Textiles

Written by Urban Sherp on July 9th, 2010
Who: Lorna Syson Textiles – UK
Where: Lorna Syson – £100 – £3999, in a variety of colors & sizes.
Why We Love It: These ‘Wall Flowers’ by textile artist Lorna Syson are anything but. We fell in love with the rich colors, the vibrancy and complete originality of these sculptural wall hangings. They truly are stunning.
Made of 100% wool, sued and silk, the textiles are screen printed or digitally printed with patterns designed by Lorna or in solid colors.  The petals are then laser cut and meticulously hand woven to create the 3-D form. One piece can take up to a week to create.
At ICFF, Lorna mentioned that her goal was to source an entirely sustainable collection by 2015. She has far surpassed that target date and will be presenting a completely ‘ec0-friendly’ collection at 100% Design in London this September – can’t wait!
For a taste of Lorna’s stunning collection with a smaller sticker price, check out her collection of accessoriesand pillows – the pillows are filled with 100% recycled wool that’s naturally resistant to dust mites, so is great for people with allergies.

Lorna Syson at ICFF 2010

Hana and I are now back in the UK after showing for the first time at the ICFF in New York.

We had a brilliant show and had such positive feedback from the event. I would like to say a massive thank you to Hana for all of her support in New York and for helping to make it such a fantastic trip!

The large leaf cushion 60 x 60cm made from laser cut 100% wool and backed with 100% cotton was a very popular cushion at the event.

I was opposite the stand of Rachel O'Neill, a lovely lighting designer from northern Ireland, her work was amazing all made out from Velcro, she has been showing at the ICFF for a number of years now and her portfolio is brilliant!

While out in New York I was lucky enough to go to a breakfast meeting with Sir Terrance Conran at the SAKS department store on 5th Avenue. It was a brilliant couple of hours listening to his experiences about how he started in the design world by doing a degree at St Martins in textiles.

I received a copy of his new book Eco House Book which is signed for me!
