Tatty Devine's 1st birthday party
On Thursday night a couple of university textile friends and I headed over the Covent Garden to check out Tatty Devine's 1st Birthday party. I didn't realise how small the shop was and when we arrived it was literally bursting at the seams. I love Tatty devine's work and I was especially admiring the collection with the clocks... unfortunately it was too busy for me to make a purchase!

Inspirational trip to Stratford butterfly farm!
I had a wonderful day at Stratford upon avon's butterfly farm. I must admit I was slightly apprehensive at what it would be like inside and whether it was worth the £6 entry charge but as soon as we stepped into the warm building at a butterfly landed on my head within the first minute or so it definitely was! The patterns on the wings are hugely inspirational for my textiles work! Keep an eye out for butterfly inspired work!

Check out the new BBC show called 'Blood, Sweat and Luxuries'
Being heavily involved in the fashion and interior manufacturing I understand the time, skills and effort it takes to produce an item. I think it is very important to highlight what goes into the items we import and consume in this country. I will definitely be watching the program being show on BBC3 this Tuesday evening at 21.00, which is looking into what goes into luxury leather goods such as shoes, belts and hand-bags.
The programs also reinforce my view that the products I produce under my label of Lorna Syson Textiles should be always be hand-made in the UK in my studio so I can always be confident of where they come from and how they are made. I also constantly keep reassessing where I get my fabrics and materials from, again it is something which is very important to me and I am striving to source all of my materials from UK manufacturers and sustainable sources. This is easier said than done because so much of the manufacturing has been moved abroad.
I am a massive believer that the UK needs to start becoming less reliable on cheap imports from abroad, and bring back the skills to the UK creating more jobs for the UK and stop supporting poor working conditions for people abroad. I will be tuning in to watch these programs to learn more!

List of this or that
i have a week off work! brilliant, great, get to time to all those things I've been putting off especially for now... problem is I have such a long list of these things they are not going to get done!
I needed to
I needed to
- design work for the new TAP (textiles and paper exhibiton I am involved with in May)
- get the new broacher finished and sent out to the printers
- ring around other shows who's websites are just confusing me!
- get the contract sent out for 100% futures
- make sure my insurance is ok and still valid for the time of 100% futures.
- Feburary accounts incoming and outgoing
- ring the suppilers to order fabric in time to then get in sent out with the correct artwork to the laser cutter and back to me in time to make in into a cushion for BCTF
- BCTF paperwork
- Accounts from the start of my business/finish uni
- getting my paperwork/samples ready in time for a 2day course starting in exactly 25hours and 26mins!
and that is just the start of it, I'm going to need another week of the organise this week..... and people think all i do is design!
